Actually, texting and on-line chatting is the most economical, clean, environmental friendly form of socialization.

Instead of friends travelling, burning expensive fuel to see each other, they can communicate without spending a calorie of energy.

Without texting habit, people would travel to see each other and would waste the whole day with barkadas compared to average 1 hour spent per day on texting.

The funniest translation job request I received was from a Japanese who wanted the text messages between his Boholana wife and a purported male friend translated into Japanese.

Another thing, I think the text habit is weakening the English proficiency of young Filipinos, especially in spelling. Unsaon man nga mas nauna pa man nakabihawo mag-text kaysa eksaktong spelling sa words. Bisag sinultian usahay, murag transcription na sa text message. In fact daghan internet forum nga murag text talk ang posts. Diri lang sa TB naa'y mga saktong balak ug klarong pagkasuwat nga opinyon ang mga members.

I think it is this intellectual degradation that will cause the Filipinos' poverty in the long run.

You are right, Sir Benne maka degrade gyud. Mag short cut sa atoa ug text aron maigo ang messages sa 160 characters kay kung moabot na ug page 2, lain naman pud nga piso ang ma kaltas. I used to that pero pag abot dire sa abroad. Dapat complete gyud ang words and wala'y shortcut kay di kasabot ang mga puti. Karon, ako na pud ang di kasabot hapit sa shortcut text.

I still remember when kiams texted me with this word. WUD? meaning What U Doin?

Actually, you spend the whole day answering text messages that are actually not that life-and-death urgent.

ItÂ´s a trend! If you donÂ´t have a cellphone, youÂ´re left out. This is really not good for the country. During my vacations, a manicurist keeps on looking at her 2 cellphones, I was really nervous she might missed some of my fingers. Our next thread must be how to stop this. Mahal mag pa up-load, pasa load, lots of gimmicks. The people are wasting their time, instead of being productive.

hahaha yes te. but I am also pissed by persons texting in moviehouses and in the church. kana pud mga amiga nga katabi nga mag cge ug text at the same time and di pajud ka text while talking with us. it's annoying.

Drivers fiddling with their mobile phone while on the wheels give me the creeps. And recently in our country, exchanges of text messages between strangers have led to EBs that resulted in scams and deadly crimes... Di lang makabugo ug makapobre, makamatay pa.

But how can we live without it? Perhaps I am right not to use texting as my main mode of communication. I still prefer and use mainly the voice call. But many Filipinos don't reply to voice calls.

The last time I was in Tagbilaran, I observed somewhere isnside BQ a bench were occupied with lot of old ladies texting and reading replies and nakamout kay dili na lagi kasagaran mokita ( gipalabi ang celphone kay sa eyeglasses) ang ubang tag dupa ang palayo sa cel ang uban hapit na simhuton gjod.

i was much amused to watch it.
