Reading that poem reminded me of one thing that my father told me, something that he told me several years ago.
First, i want to say that my father is an all-around, good man. Religious, pero quiet about it. Protective father, loving, and giving father. A good provider, God Be Praised.
Dili mo smoke ahong dad, dili mo inum pood, dili mo gamble, dili pabastobastos. Conservative and an living example of a
man of God.
I asked my father one time, when we went to a Filipino party, "Dad, why don't you drink like your friends?"
He responded to me, in his voice--which describes my father totally,
He said to me (and I will never forget it):
"Bran, if your friends and your peers drink, that does not mean you have to drink,
if your friends smoke, gamble, does not mean that you have to do so because
they do the same thing. Dili. You have to make your own decisions.
Puydi ang tawo mo katawa sa joke, pero ayaw pa bastosbastos if that joke is made against you, smile ra lang. Ug pa binuang-binuang ang tawo nimo kai di ka mo agree sa ilang opinion, bahal ra pood. Stick to what you believe is right. Going out of your way to please others--and betraying what you know is
Right is fake. you are betraying your own self and lying to yourself.
Mao na di ko mo inum
Mao na di ko mo sigarilyo
Mao na di ko mo sugal-sugal."
My father graduated Holy Spirit School and Divine Word, and I think the teachings they taught him really molded his outlook on life. Because overall, he is a quiet man. Very retiscent, but calm.
My Father, is a loving Father. He disciplines, when he has to. But he loves all the time.
He comforted me one time after I was disciplined when I did something bad when I was a child, "Bran, I discipline you because I love you, Anak."
-----
God Bless Fathers, who instruct and discipline their children towards righteousness.
For it is a Command of GOD The Father.
