GROUND ASSET | The SPYDER (Surface-to-Air PYthon and DERby) is a low-level, quick-response, short- and medium-range mobile air defense system designed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with the help of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). Aircraft, helicopters, unmanned air vehicles, drones, and precision-guided bombs can all be engaged by the SPYDER. In combat zones, it provides air defense for fixed assets as well as point and area defense for mobile forces. The SPYDER launcher is designed to fire the Python-5 and Derby surface-to-air missiles, which have full air-to-air missile compatibility.
