Surigao del Sur (1 December 2005) -- The National Food Authority assured the
public of sufficient supply of rice this coming Christmas season.
Contrary to speculations that price of government rice will increase as a result to the implementation of the expanded value added
tax, Surigao del Sur National Food Authority Provincial Manager Sebastian R. Solano, Jr. announced that the food agency will continue to sell at P18/kg for well milled rice and P16/kg for regular milled rice in the province.
Solano assured the public that there will be no increase in the price of NFA rice and will continue to be sold at NFA accredited outlets provincewide.
At present, the rice stock inventory of the province as of November 9, 2005 is 47,680 bags which is more than enough to sustain as
food security for the entire province until the year end.
Just recently, President Arroyo has declared November as National Rice Awareness Month to recognize the need to continually heighten public awareness on rice and its inter-relationship with malnutrition and poverty to sustain the attainment of national and global food security.
