Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales has directed parish priests in the Archdiocese of Manila to remit the 25-centavo coins they have collected for the project of the Catholic Church, Pondo ng Pinoy, so as not to cause shortage of the coins.

“We wish to remind parish priests not to hoard the coins in their parish offices or rectories but to remit them as soon as possible to the Pondo ng Pinoy Office. You may even call the Officer or the bank to pick up the collections,” he said, in a circular dated October 10.

He earlier asked the priests under the Archdiocese to immediately turn-over the coins to the archdiocese or bank after he was informed about the delayed remittance of the coins.

“I was told by somebody from Bangko Sentral that the Pondo ng Pinoy project was doing a disservice to the communities because parish priests were keeping the coins longer than necessary,” he said.

At the same time, the circular has authorized priests to collect the Pondo ng Pinoy bottles in various establishments that are under their jurisdiction.

“For this reason, therefore, we, in the name of Pondo ng Pinoy Community Foundation, authorize all parishes in the Archdiocese of Manila to collect Pondo ng Pinoy bottles from offices, schools, malls and other institutions within their jurisdiction,” he added. - PNA
