« on: October 14, 2008, 10:59:48 AM »
Candidate number 10 Jan Maricris Vega was named best in the talent competition of this year's MassKara Queen search held last Sunday, October 12, at the SM City Event Centre.

Candidate number 8 Kazumi Mami Sakuma, on the other hand, went home as Ms. Natasha and Ms. Ever Bilena.

The third major event of this year's Deconstructed MassKara Queen search featured various talents from the 10 candidates including jujitsu, magic tricks and belly dancing, among others. Vega performed an Indian-inspired dance she called 'Bollywood' - India's version of Hollywood.

Model, TV and event host, and Amazing Race Asia runner-up Marc Nelson led the board of judges, which was composed of belly dancing instructor Irene Caram, Rudy Villar of SM Retail Inc., flamenco instructor Mayen Lizares and MassKara street dance chairman Rudy Reveche.

The Best in Talent award is an addition to Vega's Best in Interview and Darling of the Press titles that she won during the press presentation last October 5 also at the SM City Event Centre. She was also named 'Girl of Ipanema' during the swimsuit competition held at the Planta Centro Bacolod last October 10. By winning Best in Talent, she took home a cash prize of P5,000, gift certificates from Pietro Kaffee and SM Department Store.

Sakuma, meanwhile, added the Ms. Natasha and Ms. Ever Bilena titles to her collection that includes winning the Best in Swimsuit, Ms. Photogenic and Ms. Avon during the swimsuit competition. She also received gift certificates from Natasha and Ever Bilena.

Next stop, the candidates in their festival costumes will be joining in the parade of participants in the baranggay category of the street dance competition on Friday, October 17. This is part of the MassKara Queen Committee's efforts to re-integrate the pageant into the whole MassKara festivities.

Meanwhile, the final judging and coronation night will be on Saturday, October 18, at the PNB Stage along Lacson Street to usher in the city's 70th Charter Day countdown before midnight. - Sun Star Daily
