A dance whose words are sung in Chabacano Ermitaño a hybrid of Spanish that was only spoken in the Ermita district before the turn of the century and today is extinct.

A popular dance, which has origins in Cagayan De Oro region and Davao region.

Developed when Spanish soldiers taught this dance to the local peoples in their spare time. It was adopted by the locals  and popularized.

Undeniably Spanish.

You are most welcome, ate.

There is so much rich culture within Philippine History.

When I was studying the Philippine-Spanish Historical dynamics in college, I was fascinated at how much Spain transplanted its culture into Philippine society. What was astonishing was the fact that I never knew this prior to studying it.

So much of this relation was forgotten or covered up by the Americans during the the early 20th century to independence in 1946.

To this day there are millions of writings in the Philippines and Spain regarding the era; many have not even been translated into English or Filipino. So much left to learn..
