Press Release: TAKE A LOOK at the COVID-19 Isolation Facilities at the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal in South Harbor, Manila and the Port of Capinpin in Orion, Bataan!
These transport hubs were initially converted to quarantine facilities last year, mainly to serve our repatriated seafarers. But with the recent surge in Covid-19 positive cases, and hospital beds in the NCR plus area reaching overcapacity, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade directed Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago to fast track the immediate reconfiguration of the said facilities to modular Covid-19 isolation wards, to augment the urgent need for additional hospital beds.
The Eva Macapagal Super Terminal has a total of 211 cubicles distributed in different zones, to serve patients with mild, advanced, and severe infections, and aside from the beds, are equipped with portable toilets, modular showers, and open-air dining facilities, and is fitted with airtight doors to prevent aerosols containing the COVID-19 virus from spreading.
Meanwhile, the Port of Capinpin has a 124-bed capacity, which includes 25 cubicles intended for high-risk individuals and separated by a fully equipped Nurse Station. In addition, two rooms with 12 bunk beds each are likewise allotted for our medical frontliners.
These isolation facilities are targeted to be operational tomorrow, 09 April 2021.
