FSRR: Staying Above Standards

Press Release - For more than seven decades, the First Scout Ranger Regiment has indisputably shown true grit and audacity in and out of the battlefield. From HUKBALAHAP period until today, “Musangs” has never wavered in leading the way and in delivering decisive results from combat operations.

It is believed that Musangs are the most feared unit in the Philippines, but they were not called this title for nothing. Each unit under the Scout Ranger continues to prove this in every encounter they got involved in and facing them will not be easy for the enemy. Even soldiers admits that the Scout Ranger Training is one of the hardest training in the military, for it is physically and mentally challenging and requires no rest from reception to graduation.

The Scout Rangers’ bond also withstands any challenges they faced dung their operations. This is due to the strong trust and camaraderie they built during their rigorous training together.

This bond was proven by Sgt. Jeyson Mante during the Marawi Siege in 2017. Sgt. Mante was one of the wounded soldiers within the killing zone at the height of the battle, but his comrades never abandoned him despite the perilous situation they were in. His Company Commander Capt. Sandoval, also known as the “Dare Devil”, even crawled towards his position to move him to a safer place.

“Sa Marawi, tinamaan ako pero imbes na iwanan ako doon, pinilit nilang makuha ako, ginapang nila ako doon. Lahat ginawa nila kung paano nila ako makuha doon kasi nasa killing zone pa ako, eh. Nakadapa ako at hindi ko na maigalaw ang katawan ko, pinilit nilang ma-recover ako,” Sgt Mante narrated.

This is one of the reasons why training to be a member of the Scout Rangers can be hard. Aside from the arduous physical and mental tests, one must also pass their test mission before they can participate in an actual encounter against the enemies of the state. Ten percent of the class are even authorized to perish due to the extreme conditions of the training.

Capt. Linon Pitao could choose any training within the Army, but for him, there is only one unit that can test his mettle in the battlefield, he chose to be a Scout Ranger. This is despite the constant peril that comes with the training because, for him, it is the best school in the Philippine Army for combat leadership.

“Pinili kong pumasok sa Scout Ranger dahil isa ito sa mga source ng mga leader. Para sa akin, ito ang isa sa pinaka the best na training. Tatlo ang dine-develop saamin dito, ang Stamina, Skill, at Spirit.”

The stories of Sgt. Mante and Capt. Pitao only proves that the Scout Rangers remain to stay above the standards when it comes to schooling and in operations.

Despite the tough image the Scout Rangers have, they are also like other soldiers who have a heart for protecting the public. Aside from strengthening their operation capabilities, they are also enhancing their Civil-Military Operations to further reach the people’s hearts.

On June 18, 2021, The Commanding General Philippine Army Maj. Gen. Andres C. Centino visited the regiment and was welcomed by the troops of FSRR headed by the Regiment Commander Col. Freddie T. Dela Cruz.

“To the Musangs of the Philippine Army, always remember that we are always here to support you, like how you are always prepared to extend your services in serving the people and securing the land. Your efforts and sacrifices in the frontlines of the battlefield do not go unnoticed, be it against armed struggles or an unseen enemy,” Maj. Gen. Centino said during his visit. #

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
