In February 2019, I visited the Calawag Mountain Resort in Tibiao, Antique. Located in the beautiful wooded highlands of Tibiao along the river, the mountain resort is one of the most serene and enchanting places in my home province where you can enjoy nature, food, and adventure that the resort can offer.
Tibiao is also home to local weavers whom I have helped through the Shared Service Facilities Program of the DTI. They have since become beneficiaries of the construction of a weaving center by PHILFIDA, and participants in the various national fairs organized by DTI and DOT. I am also proud that two of the weavers from Tibiao went to Geneva to participate in the Hibla Traveling Exhibition, my brainchild, in partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Visitors can also explore the town’s rich pottery industry as it is the home to the biggest supply of clay. The crafts of our best potters in the province are showcased in the annual Maninihon Festival celebrated every February.
We also hope to have our own marine hatchery in Tibiao once the bill I filed HB 8263, establishing a multi-species hatchery which will also serve as training facility that will showcase innovations and will improve fisheries productivity in the province, is approved by both Houses of Congress.
As we are still in the midst of the pandemic, I hope that you will add Tibiao in your travel bucket list. You will surely enjoy this town as a cultural, art, heritage, and tourism destination.
