The much-awaited reunion of the popular folk group of the ’70s and ’80s “Asin†will be one of the highlights of the 44th Foundation and the 11th T’nalak Festival of South Cotabato on July 13-18.
The late Cesar “Saro†Bañares, who grew up in Koronadal, South Cotabato, and Lolita “Nene†Carbon founded the group that made several big hits, mostly dealing on subjects of morality, environmental awareness, expressions of the soul.
The other member of the group is Nonoy Pillora. Carbon and Pillora will perform on July 14.
Among the songs that captivated the hearts of many are “Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran,†“Ang Bayan Kong Sinilangan,†“Timog Cotabato,†“Itanong Mo Sa Mga Bata,†“Gising Na Kaibigan†and “Balita.â€
The first reunion of the two pioneering members of the band will be hosted by newly elected South Cotabato governor Arthur “Dodo†Pingoy, Jr.
Admission to the concert, also a tribute to Bañares “considered as one of the great poets and composers of his era†is free.
“The concert will give emphasis to the group’s advocacy on protection and preservation of the environment, which was immortalized in the song ‘Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran.’ We hope our kababayans will come home for this historic event,†said Gov. Pingoy.
Pillora is now based in Israel while Carbon will take a break from her US Tour to pay tribute to a fallen colleague and great composer.
Both Nonoy Pillora and Lolita Carbon consider South Cotabato their second home.
