Yesterday, 27 April 2022, the National Historical Commission of the Phillipines, as the Secretariat of the National Quincentennial Committee, and the City Government of Lapu-Lapu conducted the Adlaw ni Lapulapu: 501st Anniversary of the Victory at Mactan at the Liberty Shrine, Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte served as the event's Guest of Honor. He was accompanied by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Andres Centino and NHCP Chairman Rene R. Escalante as Military and Civilian Hosts respectively. Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong"  Chan witnessed the wreath-laying rites. The event was opened by a high-speed opening pass by the F/A-50 PH Fighter Jets of the Philippine Air Force.

Also present for the program were DepEd Secretary Leonor M. Briones, DND Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana, and other offcials from the national and local government. The annual Kadaugan sa Maktan followed the commemorative program.

The event also served as the official close of the Mactan part of the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines which ends this 2022. The Victory at Mactan was selected as the culminating event for the 2021 QCP in recognition of its importance in Philippine history as the earliest recorded resistance by Filipinos against foreign intervention when the people of Mactan, led by Lapulapu, defeated the Spanish forces under Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
