Plano del Puerto de Palapag y Cabo del Espiritu Santo, 1767
The Royal Port of Palapag (Puerto Real de Palapag) also known as 'Mesa de Palapag' with the neighboring islets of Batag, Calomotan in Laoang, Cahayagan, and Buring served as the entry-exit points during the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade. Spanish galleons, naos, even foreign vessels used to dock at this port during inclement weather in order to seek refuge. They wait until favorable winds and currents would aid them as they continue their journey from Manila to Nueva España (Mexico) and vice versa.
