Chosen from among the 800 participants (qualifiers and alternates) in the Iloilo gathering in April, five of Bohol’s young mathematicians survived the intensive month-long Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) – Philippines training at the DEECO Technological Institute in Pasig City which ended recently.
They are Josh Jozef Caberte, James Okusa, Timothy Racho, AJ Wincielou Johanna Araoarao Gabin and Eloisa Remoreras. The MTG – Bohol Center produced 27 elementary and 14 high school trainees under Dr. Jose Ceberte and Omar Remendado. Caberte is now a fourth year high school student of the Bohol International Learning Center (BILC).
Okusa, a veteran in the MTG regional and national levels, is a second year HS student of the Victoriano D. Tirol Advanced Learning Center (VDT-ALC), while Racho is a third year high school student of the BILC.
Gabin, the only neophyte of Bohol’s trainees, a Grade 6 pupil of Holy Spirit School when she joined MTG last year, is now a first year HS student at the Tagbilaran City Science High School (TCSHS).
Remoreras is presently a Grade 5 pupil of VDT-ALC. All five are “Best in Math†awardees in their respective schools.
MTG trainings allow students to enhance their experiences and explore opportunities, while it help achieve desired learning competencies in mathematics.
For many years, MTG has been responsible in training Filipino mathematicians for international Math competitions in the United States of America, Canada, South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and India where Boholano Cyrus Ebojo, then an HSS student, was bronze medalist in February 2006.
MTG-Bohol is one of the 37 centers in the entire country. (jefilorewinanclacoe)
