From FB Post: RAINBOW HOTEL...When in Tagbilaran, Bohol in the 1930's, this was the place to stay in, that is if you know where it is. But back then it was easy to find anything, well at least, mostly. That's because Tagbilaran only had one major thoroughfare then- Libertad Street, and on roughly the spot where today one finds MOA(Mall of Alturas) used to stand the building that used to be one of only two lodging houses of note in town( the other was Matig-a Hotel at the southeastern end of town)- Rainbow Hotel. I heard it was owned by the Gallares family. But when were were growing up in the late '60's, the rainbow had long gone out of the hotel. Instead the building became known for the merchandizing shop that later rented its ground floor - Villa Ondolana Light, The shop was called as such because it belonged to a rich family who had built themselves a big house in Ondol, Loboc, thus Villa Ondolana. I have no explanation for "Light" but I'm sure it had nothing to do with whatever sugar-free products it sold. As to the former hotel, it deteriorated and gathered enough dust that eventually it ceased calling the attention of passersby and disappeared from view. Finally it disappeared forever in 1975 when the first big fire in Tagbilaran swallowed the business district of town and deposited everything it ingested into the dustbin of memory. But while it lasted this once grand structure gave color to our otherwise insipid childhood.
