The Bohol ChronicleA daughter of a company truck driver recently garnered 15 awards during the graduation exercises of Tagbilaran City Science High School.
Deborah Anne O. Lumantas, 16, a resident of Manga District this city, was conferred last April 15 the following awards: President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Outstanding Achievement Award in Academic Excellence; Philippine Senate Gold Medal for Academic Excellence; Excellence Award in Mathematical Ability; Cong. Edgar Chatto Award for Academic Excellence; Excellence Award
in Business Technology; Provincial Government of Bohol Academic Excellence Award; Youth Leadership Excellence Award; University of Bohol Gold Scholarship Award; GSP Service Award; University of Cebu Gold Medal; Mathematics Club Leadership Award; Southwestern University Medal of Excellence and Outstanding Researcher in Life and Science.
Debbie, as she is fondly called, graduated Valedictorian.
Debbie is the daughter of Snoky Opaon-Lumantas, a housewife, and Absalon Matuod-Lumantas, a company truck driver.
During the graduation exercises, Debbie's parents couldn't help but get emotional.
In his response speech on behalf of the parents, Debbie's father remarked how proud he is for his daughter, who despite his meager income, managed to reach the top and excelled.
