At the dawn of Saturday, Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan, who led a Spanish expedition, saw above the horizon the towering heights of Samar. This was the 'rediscovery' of the Philippines. Ferdinand Magellan called the place the Archipelago de San Lazaro.

Contrary to the romanticized tale of Magellan 'discovering' the Philippines in 1521, it's vital to remember that the islands thrived long before his arrival.

Magellan's journey was just a slice of European exploration, but the Philippines were already a hub of diverse cultures.

While his arrival brought change, like Christianity and new technologies, let's not overlook the thriving communities pre-existing his visit.

Correcting this misconception is crucial for historical accuracy and to honor indigenous heritage, fostering appreciation for all cultures involved.
