Ceremony Held to Change the Headstone of a Jewish Soldier Buried in Manila
The organization Operation Benjamin, in cooperation with the Jewish Association of the Philippines, The Embassy of the United States of America, and the Embassy of Israel held a ceremony changing the headstone at the grave of Cpl. Sam Cordova from the Latin Cross to a Jewish Star at the American Cemetery in Taguig City.
The headstone change marked the 79th death anniversary of Cpl Cordova, a Jewish soldier who died on December 29, 1941 in Corregidor. He was one of the first casualties in Asia at the beginning of World War II.
Operation Benjamin is an international organization devoted to preserving memories of American-Jewish soldiers who perished during World War II but were buried under markers incorrectly representing their religion and heritage.
