Philippine History - On June 09, 1904, General Artemio Ricarte remains defiant while he was charged with conspiracy, rebellion and insurrection against the United States.
General Ricarte was the first Commanding General of the Philippine Revolutionary Army and considered as the "Father of the Philippine Army.
He is known for his non-allegiance to the Americans, believing that the United States was a more dangerous enemy than Spain. Some accounts indicate that he refused Japan's offer to evacuate the Philippines towards the end of World War II saying, "I can not take refuge in Japan at this critical moment when my people are in distress. I will stay in my Motherland to the last."
The Armed Forces of the Philippines pays homage to the Father of the Philippine Army by naming the Headquarters Western Command, Camp General Artemio Ricarte. In the AFP General Headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, the General Ricarte Hall can be found across the Grandstand, in honor of the notable general.
