On June 27, 1863, Katipunan founding father Ladislao Diwa was born in Cavite. While he initially pursued priesthood, Diwa eventually studied law at the University of Santo Tomas.
He was already serving as curial del juzgado in Quiapo when he joined Jose Rizal's La Liga Filipina (Philippine League) in 1892, taking the codename "Baguio" (storm). Diwa, along with Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata, Jose Dizon, Valentin Diaz, and Deodato Arellano, founded the secret society Katipunan during the same year. Diwa took the pseudonym "Balete", after the tree of the same name, and was elected their fiscal. According to him, however, only he and two others (Bonifacio and Plata) founded the Katipunan, citing the "triangle" method of recruitment to maintain secrecy. The first triangle was presumably formed by the three of them. From there, he later took in Roman Basa and Teodoro Gonzales, the second triangle.
Later on, he would serve as escribano in Pampanga, where he would be among the first to be arrested for suspicions of revolutionary activity in 1896. Diwa escaped execution when he was released in 1897, after which he rejoined the Revolution and was designated the rank of colonel. By 1898, Diwa would be made politico-military governor of Cavite. On May 13, 1901, Diwa surrendered to the United States. After his surrender, he would serve in the courts of Cavite until his death on March 12, 1930.
