Boholano tops teachers' boardTopping the 2008 national board exam for teachers was farthest from his mind. He did not even expect to pass.
"But I prayed so hard for Divine help and did the best that I could to pass the exam. So when I was informed that I landed in top 10, I could hardly believe it," Jessie Auxilio said.
Auxilio, a 2006-2007 Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) graduate of BIT-Talibon landed 6th place in this year's successful board passers.
The Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) released the result last Thursday.
Following its publication in national dailies, Governor Erico Aumentado was the first to extend congratulations to lawyer Dionisio Balite, Chairman of the Board and President-Emeritus of the BIT International College.
A top official of Cebu Normal University (CNU) in Cebu City also congratulated the administration and teaching staff of the Teachers College for the accomplishment.
Aida Dela Serna of CNU told BIT officials that BIT is the only school in Central Visayas that landed in the top 10.
Auxilio, sixth child in a brood of seven, is a consistent honour student since the elementary and high school years.
He took the exam and qualified for the President Carlos P. Garcia Scholarship Program.
The semestral and monthly stipend that he received from the program provided the means to complete his BEED degree at BIT-Talibon in Talibon town.
Congressman Edgar Chatto (Bohol, 1st District), a prime mover of the CPG scholarship program, also extended his felicitations to the BIT IC administration.
"The achievement of Jessie Auxilio will no doubt be a source of pride not only to the BIT community but to the Boholanos as well. Hopefully, this will also inspire the other scholars and stakeholders of the CPG scholarship program," Chatto said.
His teacher in Grade 1 sparked Auxilio's interest in the teaching profession.
"My teacher in Grade 1, Mrs. Flora Casquejo of the Balintawak Elementary School, Balintawak, Talibon was a good disciplinarian and a good teacher. She serves as my inspiration and role model of what a good teacher should be," he said.
Perhaps overwhelmed by his latest achievement, Auxilio stammered when asked about his plans.
"Frankly, I still have no idea. But for sure, I will look for a teaching job so I can also help my younger sister in her studies. Public or private employment, it doesn't matter, but I guess public employment offers better pay," he concluded.
