#OnThisDay November 24, 1942, a joint attack on Japanese garrison in Tagbilaran by 1st and 2nd Bohol Battalions, under United States Forces in the Philippines (USFIP) [later Bohol Area Command, BAC], planned and directed by Captain Ismael P. Ingeniero himself. About 20 Japanese soldiers were liquidated.
The following day, the battalions assaulted upon the Japanese garrison at the Trade School (now Bohol Island State University, BISU; Bohol High School was also a Japanese garrison) led by Lt. Vicente K. Nunag, Jr, it was a shock and awe assault. Many Japs were exterminated and scattered. The Japanese retaliated and bombarded the towns of Tagbilaran, Dauis, Baclayon, Alburquerque, Cortes, Maribojoc, Loon, Calape, Tubigon, Jagna, Garcia-Hernandez, Dimiao and Lila by Japanese cruiser that was already positioned in Bohol Strait and Bohol Sea. Many civilians died by mortar fired by the Japs.
On November 29, 1942, a crucial conference in Batuan, Bohol which led to the unification of the scattered guerrilla forces in Bohol under one command. Capt. Ismael P. Ingeniero was promoted to major and was chosen as the Commander of the unified Bohol Guerrilla Forces.
The Boholano soldiers tend to involved the use of a small attacking, mobile force against a large, unwieldy forces. Tactically, the Boholano guerrilla armies made the repetitive attacks far from the opponent's center and imposing a constant debilitating strain on the enemy.
