HOW PREPARED ARE WE?
This was the question Sen. Raffy Tulfo asked officials of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) during the meeting of the Finance Subcommittee K on the proposed P7.23 billion 2023 budget of the department and its attached agencies, Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Tulfo queried if the DICT is capable of protecting the country against potential cyberattacks that could paralyze government operations. He cited several incidents of cyber-attacks in other counties that are more technologically advanced than the Philippines. “They (cyber-attackers) have infiltrated countries that more advanced than us. So that is why I am asking how prepared are we?” Tulfo asked. Usec. Alexander Ramos, head of DICT's Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, admitted that the country is vulnerable at present, nevertheless, the department has initiated several changes that could preempt possible intrusion.
