POLICE NAB CONMAN POSING AS PASTOR FOR EXTORTION

Press Release: Police arrested an alleged religious pastor who demanded money from police applicants in exchange for facilitating their recruitment into the PNP in Calbayog City on Friday.

On the same day that PNP Chief, Police General Debold M Sinas, was in Calbayog City for an official function, operatives of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) launched an entrapment operation at the Bay Park Hotel in Barangay Capoocan, Calbayog City at 4:45 PM upon complaints of two victims, Jhon Mico Amparado, 23, and Rodel Santelices, 25, both PNP recruit applicants of Calbayog City.

Arrested in the entrapment operation was a certain PAULO MENDOZA, 36, of Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur, who introduced himself to the victims as a member of the clergy, and was claimed by witnesses as asking for "additional" P20,000.00 "because the Chief, PNP was visiting the area".

“Apparently, the suspect used my official visit to Calbayog City to further con the victims.”, the Chief PNP said.

IMEG agents are conducting follow-up investigation to identify other cohorts of Mendoza, who was also caught wearing a jacket with malacanang prints, in the robbery-extortion activity.

Sinas reiterated earlier warning to police applicants not to fall for similar criminal modus operandi of persons who claim to have connections to facilitate entry of recruits into the PNP.

“The recruitment system practically eliminates windows for  “human intervention” in all stages from the documentation, general knowledge and aptitude test, medical examination, neuro-psychiatrict screening, drug-testing, and agility test. All recruits are nameless and are recognized only as digital barcodes by an automated data-processing system.” the Chief PNP explained.

 “Besides, there is no need for police applicants to shell out any amount to be recruited into the PNP, because it is a form of public service.” Sinas emphasized.
