The peanut industry faces challenges such as the availability of quality seeds and access to superior varieties. Since 2008, imports have declined and the government is actively investing in research and development (R&D) programs to improve production, postharvest technologies, and variety development.
To lessen the production gap, the government has supported various R&D initiatives focused on improving production methods, postharvest technologies, and breeding new peanut varieties. Here are eight new and improved peanut varieties well-suited to Philippine conditions. 🥜
