The decision of Poland to procure 48 new FA-50 Fighting Eagle light combat aircraft is actually both a boon and bane for the Philippine Air Force.
Adding another international user of the FA-50 will, as we said before, improve the supportability of the type for a longer period of time. This is important for the PAF since it is a historical long term user of aircraft models, with fighters even exceeding 30 years in service before retirement (S-211s are now 30+ years old, F-5A/Bs were retired after 40 years in service).
This would push KAI to continue supporting the FA-50 program, and improve the product over time.
But the Polish order also means having 48 aircraft orders ahead of any planned procurement of additional FA-50s by the PAF.
If the PAF decide to buy additional FA-50s anytime soon, the delivery time would be pushed back because Poland ordered first. Malaysia is also expected to order a squadron's worth, and if their order comes in first, that means an even longer delivery time for a Philippine order.
The PAF has an existing plan to procure an additional 12 FA-50 or similar aircraft to fulfill its plan to have 24 such aircraft, categorized as the Fighter/Surface Attack Aircraft/Lead-in Fighter Trainer (F/SAA/LIFT).
