QCPD (Quezon City Police District) Press Statement on the Alleged Police harassment during the First Day of Class in Quezon City
This pertains to the alleged police harassment during the first day of classes which occurred in Pres. Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School in Brgy. Batasan Hills, Quezon City as posted on social media.
Please be informed that at about 8:30 AM, August 22, 2022, a concerned citizen reported to Batasan Police Station (PS 6) regarding Kabataan Partylist Members who established a rally infront of aforesaid school.
The said group initially asked permission from the QCPD Police Assistance Desk to distribute alcohol and school supplies to conceal their intention; thus, they were allowed to position themselves near the gate. However, they suddenly brought out streamers and placards and were about to hold a program right in front of the gate of Corazon Aquino Elementary School causing disruption of the entry of parents and students, thereat resulting in long lines in the queuing.
The QCPD immediately dispatched policemen to warn the protesters and requested them to remove their protest placards, as it caused fear to children and parents in entering the school premises.
However, said protesters despised the warnings and refused to leave the area despite the negotiations. At that instance, the QCPD decided to peacefully disperse the group and confiscated their streamers and placards.
QCPD already established its Ligtas Balik-Eskwela SY 2022-2023 operational guidelines and procedures to all its units weeks before today. The Station Commanders coordinated with school authorities, parents and teachers associations to provide public safety services with the schools. Police Assistance Desks (PADs) were also established near the entrances of school campuses in Quezon City.
Meanwhile, the parents and students were grateful for the immediate action of QCPD personnel which resulted in the successful dispersal of the protesters.
PBGEN NICOLAS D TORRE III said, we do not discredit any group instead we encourage BAYANIHAN spirit in support to “BALIK ESKWELA 2022.” Likewise, the QCPD personnel will always observe maximum tolerance but will strictly enforce the law especially in dealing with protesters; however, if the latter exhibits unruly behaviour, we will not be lenient in ensuring public safety towards the attainment of orderly and peaceful face to face classes.
“Ang kapulisan ng QCPD ay patuloy na magbabantay sa mga paaralan upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng mga mag-aaral at upang mapanatili ang kaayusan at kapayapaan dito sa Lungsod Quezon,” saad ni PBGEN Torre III.
