34 Lumads undergo Skills Training on Masonry and Carpentry in Talaingod

Talaingod, Davao del Norte – A convergence efforts of the 56th Infantry (TATAG) Battalion in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Davao del Norte, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Talaingod and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - Davao del Norte Provincial Office, successfully launched the Skills Training on Masonry and Carpentry NCII with the theme dubbed as “Kaalam ug Kahanas para sa Panginabuhian alang sa Kalambuan” held at the Tribal Hall, Sitio Tibucag, Brgy Dagohoy, Talaingod, Davao del Norte, today, August 29, 2019.

LTC NORMAN E VALDEZ INF (GSC) PA, Battalion Commander of the 56IB, in his speech said “Sa aming pag-deploy ng Community Support Program (CSP) Team dito sa Sitio Tibucag ay nagsagawa kami ng survey upang nang sa gayun ay malaman namin ang inyong tunay na pangangailangan. Isa dito ay ang inyong problema sa kahirapan at livelihood programs. Kung kaya ay agad kaming sumadya sa Munisipyo ng Talaingod at Probinsiya ng Davao del Norte upang maiparating sa kanila ang inyong mga ninanais at mga pangangailangan”. He added, “Ngayon, nandirito ang TESDA, LGU ng Talaingod at iba pa nating ahensya ng gobyerno upang maisakatuparan ang pagbibigay kaalaman at sa kalaunan ay para sa inyong pangkabuhayan upang sa darating na panahon ay mayroon na kayong maipang-tutustos sa pang-araw araw na pangangailangan ng inyong mga pamilya”. Moreover, he said, “Sana ay pahalagahan ninyo ang mga tulong na naibibigay ng gobyerno gaya ng pagmamahal at pagpapahalaga namin sa inyo.”

TESDA Provincial Director, Ms Arlyn Bandong, also stated “Gusto sa atong Presidente nga madala ang among serbisyo diri sa Sitio Tibucag dihni sa lungsod ng Talaingod ang pag-training sa 34 sa primero nga batch ng masonry ug carpentry karong bulana. Dili ni mahitabo nga programa kung dili kay LTC Valdez ug Mayor Libayao nga naghangyo nga kamo mo-train para mosuporta sa ilahang proyektong pang-imprastraktura dihni sa Talaingod”.

Also, Hon Jonnie A Libayao, Municipal Mayor of Talaingod graced the launching program of the said training of 34 Indigenous people (IP) students including 5 former rebels. In his speech he said, “usa kini nga proyekto nga maoy maghatag tulay sa atong mga lumad nga kadtong dili makaabot anang pag eskwela sa dagkong tonghaan, pinaagi aning TESDA dili lang sila makat-on, mas labaw pa ang ilang maton-an”.

Hon. Bogsi Anlas, the Punong Barangay of Dagohoy in his speech also said “Atong pasalamatan ang atong mga kasundaluhan nga nangulo sa pagpahigayon sa masonry ug carpentry training ug sa nagka lain-laing ahensya sa gobyerno nga walay undang nangita og pamaagi aron makatabang sa katawhan ilabi na gayod sa atong mga kaigsoonang Lumad nga walay ika gasto sa pag eskwela. Salamat kaayo sa 56IB Tatag Battalion, ang ato-ang tinuod na sundalo diri sa Talaingod sa pagtabang sa atong mga lumad, motabang kaayo sila sa pagpangita ug tinud-anay na kinahanglanon sa atong komunidad ug maingon nako nga ang paglantaw nila sa ato kaayohan, walay sukod mao nga ato kining hatagan ug importansya ang ilang ginahimo alang kanatong mga lumad”.

This initiative is in line with the AFP’s Community Support Program, to address the issue on limited access to education and poverty that is being used by the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) exploitation and manipulation of Lumad communities in the far-flung areas which enticed their recruitments.

Further, this activity aimed to deliver government services to marginalized sectors especially the Indigenous People (IP) in Conflict Affected Areas (ConAAs) and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) in Talaingod.
