The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region XI (MGB XI) actively participated in the inaugural Mindanao Youth Convergence on Disaster Resilience and Sustainability (MYC-DRS), spearheaded by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA). The event, themed "Empowering the Mindanawon Youth (EMY) Towards a Disaster-Resilient and Sustainable Mindanao", gathered young leaders from across Mindanao to foster their role in promoting resilience and sustainability in the region.
The convergence began with inspiring welcome remarks from USec. Janet M. Lopoz, CESO I, Executive Director of MinDA. A keynote message from Secretary Leo Tereso A. Magno, Chairperson of MinDA and Lead Convener of the 1st MYC, highlighted the critical role of youth in building a disaster-resilient nation. During the breakout sessions, MGB XI contributed significantly in the discussions on "Strengthening Disaster Preparedness and Response Mechanisms", specifically focusing on the vital role of MGB XI in disaster resilience.
MGB XI highlighted its critical functions, including:
Conducting geohazard mapping and assessments to identify areas vulnerable to natural disasters.
Promoting information and education campaigns to raise public awareness about disaster preparedness.
Providing technical assistance to local government units (LGUs) in developing disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) plans.
Collaborating with other government agencies to enhance disaster response capabilities.
The bureau reaffirms its commitment to work closely with various stakeholders in mitigating risks and safeguarding communities from the impacts of natural disasters. As a key government agency tasked with ensuring environmental protection and sustainability, DENR-MGB XI recognizes that empowering the youth is integral to achieving long-term resilience. Under the leadership of Regional Director Beverly Mae M. Brebante, the bureau will remain steadfast in its mission to strengthen disaster preparedness and build a safer, more sustainable future for Mindanao and its people.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. - John 3:16-18
