Life of Secretary Arturo Tugade
« on: May 22, 2021, 01:03:21 PM »
By DOTr Asec Hope Libiran
Until now, I still can’t help but be moved whenever I hear Sec Art Tugade talk about his childhood.

I remember when he said that growing up, their family survived on meager income. They first lived in Sampaloc, Manila until one day, their house was destroyed by fire.

They relocated in the blighted area of Tatalon, Quezon City, where their house was made of wood, with a roof that can easily get blown away by typhoons.

Sanitation facilities and water were a form of luxury then, as he used to wait long lines just to take a bath at a shared water pump. To this day, Sec Art remembers how floodwaters rose quickly in their house every time it rained.

Living in the yoke of poverty, where food was scarce in their household, Sec. Art, at an early age then, dreamt of getting out of their dire situation.

Fortunately, what their family lacked in wealth, they made up for in values. Sec Art grew up inculcated with the values of honesty, dignity in labor, and perseverance.

He once told me that his experiences taught him that poverty is never an area of discouragement or a point of obstacle in getting one’s dreams.

Sec Tugade taught me that being poor is never a reason or shame nor embarrassment, nor is it a reason for just giving up. It is a golden opportunity to improve – a signal honor to achieve.

According to Art Tugade himself:
BUHAY TATALON

Talagang ganon.

Kaya kapag naiisip ko,  dapat ‘wag tayong mag-give up. ‘WAG TAYONG BUMIGAY. Because these challenges in life will nurture you and help you mature to become a performing and better individiual.

It should not be taken as a reason to give up.

‘WAG KANG BIBITAW.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
