Gov’t considering simultaneous vaccination among priority groups

PASIG CITY --- The National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 is mulling the proposal of vaccinating different priority groups simultaneously, as the bulk of the vaccine supplies are expected to arrive in May and June.

In a press briefing on Friday, March 19, Sec. Carlito G. Galvez Jr, NTF on COVID-19 Chief Implementer and Vaccine Czar, said the mass vaccination is scheduled to begin when there’s an “influx of supply.”

He pointed out that it would be more feasible if the government will mobilize both the public and private sectors to scale up the country’s vaccination rate in the coming months.

“We will target different sectors simultaneously para maiksi ang time with maximum output,” Galvez said.

Under the proposal,  the government plans to conduct the simultaneous vaccination of those in priority groups A1 to A4 as identified by the Interim National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (iNITAG).

The national and local governments will spearhead the vaccination of those individuals under A1 to A3, while the private sector will lead the vaccination for the A4 priority group.

Included in the A1 category are frontline workers of local and national, as well as private and public health institutions, health professionals and non-professionals such as students, nursing aides, janitors and barangay health workers.

The A2 priority group covers senior citizens, while individuals with comorbidities fall under the A3 list.

Meanwhile, frontline personnel in essential sectors including uniformed personnel are under the A4 list.

“Para hindi nakatengga ang resources and capabilities natin. Kapag nagkaroon tayo ng full mobilization, ine-expect namin na tataas ang ating vaccination rate to 100,000 a day or even 250,000 a day,” Galvez added.

The vaccine czar shared that the initial vaccine supply ordered by the private sector, which is composed of 2.6 million doses of Astrazeneca, will be delivered in May.

The government is expecting to receive a total of five to eight million doses in May. These include those supplies procured by the private sector, 200,000 doses of Moderna, two million doses of Sinovac, and early deliveries coming from different manufacturers.

This March, 2.3 million doses from Sinovac and the COVAX facility will be delivered. By April, around five million doses from Gamaleya and Sinovac are expected to arrive. END

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
