CONGRESS RELAY TEAM FINISHES IRONMAN 70.3 DAVAO QUEST

Two Members of the House of Representatives and a congressional spouse joined the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao triathlon on Sunday and completed the course in their “Happy Triathlete” fashion.

The Happy Triathlete Inc (HTI) - Congress relay team of 1-CARE Party-list Rep. Carlos Roman Uybarreta, MATA Party-list Rep. Tricia Nicole Velasco-Catera, and Sherwin Catera finished 140th out of 177 in the relay and 959th out of 1,327 overall.

"It was good. I was able to finish the swim part in less than an hour (56:05 minutes). Am happy with that considering the limited time of training I had, because of my work in Congress," Rep. Carlos Roman Uybarreta said. That time put him in 159th place in the relay, 974th by gender, and 1,146th overall.

“It's my first time to do a relay. Beside the fact that it is easier, especially for my age, since I only have to concentrate on my discipline,” the 52-year-old solon said.

Sherwin Catera took the bike leg in 3:13:37 to finish 79th in relay, 749th by gender, and 841st overall while his wife, Rep. Tricia Nicole Velasco-Catera, clocked 3:06:36 in the run segment for 149th in relay, 854th by gender, and 1,011th overall.

"Joining a triathlon forces you to train and it will eventually and surely benefit your health," Uybarreta said.

He also does triathlons to set the example for his kids. "To inspire and encourage my two boys to take care of their body and mind and to encourage them to engage in sports, in any sport not necessarily triathlon (although my eldest joined several triathlons before and was one of the pioneers of Ironkids)."

"I consider triathlon to be one of the most challenging sports as far as mental and will power are concerned. So many times in the course of the race your mind will question your purpose in pursuing the race, when almost all parts of your body are in pain, and you are at your lowest morale,” Uybarreta reflects.

He added: “Your mind will play tricks on you and the easiest way is to give up. but despite all those things you have to fight back and will yourself to go on and stick to your goal. Similarly, in life too we just have to stay on course and trust the Lord's plan even if everything is going against us.”

“Relay puts emphasis on teamwork and camaraderie. In training you have to encourage each other and in the actual race you have to support one another. So when I was swimming earlier I knew that was not doing it for myself but for my two other teammates. But in all of these we have to give credit and glorify the true source of our strength and power, our Lord and Savior!” Uybarreta said. (END)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
