SOLON CALLS FOR AUDIT OF CAR REGISTRATION TRANSACTIONS INVOLVING ‘BRAND NEW’ VEHICLE LISTED IN ANOTHER PERSON’S NAME
The ongoing government investigation on the reported discovery of a supposedly brand new car registered in the name of a person other than its buyer should not be limited to that specific unit only.

So unusual this case is that it merits not just an investigation, but an audit of the car dealer’s transactions.
An audit of the dealer is called for because enough doubt now affects the integrity of the vehicle registration system. The presumption of regularity no longer applies because a highly irregular set of circumstances has come to light. Included in that set of circumstances is the alleged delay in the issuance of the car’s documents.
Possible further discovery of other red flags could indicate a systemic problem.
As Member of the House Committee on Transportation, I am filing an inquiry in aid of legislation to get to the bottom of this car registration mystery, assure the motoring public that the vehicle registration system is secured and working as it should, and hold accountable those responsible for the incident and possible other similar incidents.
