The 3rd Infantry Division Achieves Major Success in Combatting Insurgency, Dismantles Guerrilla Fronts and Secures Provinces
The 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army has made significant strides in its campaign against insurgency. During the 4th Quarter Campaign Progress Review and Assessment, Major General Marion Sison, Commander of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division and Joint Task Force Spear, presented the aggressive military operations against the New People's Army (NPA).
In 2024, the military engaged in 63 encounters, neutralizing 116 rebels, including high-ranking NPA leaders. Of the 116 neutralized, 47 rebels were killed in battle, while 69 surrendered or were captured.
The intensified combat operations resulted in the dismantling of three guerrilla fronts and two sub-regional committees. In dismantling two fronts of the Panay Regional Committee, the 301st Infantry Brigade earned the AFP Campaign Streamer during the 89th AFP Anniversary at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand, Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally awarded the recognition to the 301st Infantry Brigade under the leadership of Brigadier General Michael Samson.
The 3rd Infantry Division’s counter-insurgency efforts led to the declaration of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Antique provinces as Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPs) areas. The division also received the Gawad Parangal Plaque from the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
The military assisted many rebels by providing financial aid from local government units and support through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), which included immediate, livelihood, and burial assistance.
Major General Marion Sison recognized the sacrifices and dedication of everyone involved in the fight against insurgency. With a successful year in 2024, the 3rd Infantry Division is preparing for the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ continued campaign to end the country’s internal security operations.
