Panglao means a "lonesome place"

Panglao is the southernmost town of Bohol. It is one of the 2 towns on Panglao Island, the other being Dauis. It is of historical significance in that it was the place where the Spaniards went after an unfortunate experience in Cebu.

It is said that the Spanish explorers who came to this island in 1803 named it Panglao after the world 'mapanglao', meaning 'lonesome place'. It is also one of the oldest towns of Bohol. It had a population of 6,543 in 1879.(the provincial government)

Kining pung mapanglaw gikan sa Tagalog ni. Boot pasabot nga masolub-on. Pero ako naka-abot pa ko sa akong Lola nga mosulti dili 'Panglao' kundi 'Pangao'. Ayaw ko ingna nga jungit tong akong Lola. Tingali naa gyu'y kahulugan ug 'Pangao'. I think the meeaning of the word is, 'a glow in the dark'.

Dili na matawag ang Panglao "lonesome place".  Saba na kaayo ang Panglao karon kay daghan nag sige ug dok2x kay daghan kaayo mga foreigner nakapalit ug yuta nya naghimo ug balay/resort/restaurants.

Mao bitaw na nga kadaghanan sa lugar sa Panglao Island naga-gikan sa pinulungang Insek. Pero ang Panglao gikan sa pung palaw. Usa ka pung nga malay nga ang boot pasabot isla. Tungod kay ang mga insek jungit mao nga nahimong panglao ang palaw.
