First District Representative Edgar Chatto has requested the National Historical Institute (NHI) to declare the ancestral house of the late President Carlos P. Garcia in Tagbilaran City as a historical monument.

This will entitle the building which used to house the Bohol Museum a funding from the national government for its preservation and maintenance.

In his letter-request to NHI Chairman Ambeth Ocampo dated October 9, 2007, Chatto explained that once NHI officially declares the late President's home as historical monument, it will be eligible for government funding to keep up with renovation, restoration and maintenance costs.

Chatto's move came with the blessings of the Garcia Family through Lawyer Fernando Campos.

Recently, it was reported that lack of funds made it difficult to keep the building in good shape, especially after the Bohol Museum was absorbed by the new National Museum located in the old Provincial Library Building.

The Bohol Association of Metro Manila, Inc. (BAMMI), in coordination with the CPG Foundation, Inc., has an on-going fund-raising drive to finance its restoration and repair.
