The Falklands War while being a small contained conflict is in many ways regarded a the new model war that ended the era of mass conflict before and defined a new age of modern warfare that continues to this day.
The war is still the only conflict to be fought since WWII where two modern 1st world militaries clashed.
After the open reporting of Vietnam, the British government imposed strict control over media reporting, a model all world conflicts have used to this day.
The Argentinians used a large force of mostly conscripts, whereas the British used almost entirely special forces to fight the war. Since the war most conflicts have followed the British model of using small highly trained forces.
One of the great ironies of the war, Margaret Thatcher had the lowest rating in the opion polls of any prime minister in history and a landslide defeat was imminant at the forthcoming election. Argentina's brutal military Junta were in firm control. After the war Margaret Thatcher went on to election victory whereas Argentina's military regime collapsed and was replaced a liberal one. Leaving many to conclude, Britain may have won the war but suffered the most from the consequences.
