OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF NEW SPECIAL ENVOY FOR OFW CONCERNS

We welcome the appointment of Special Envoy for OFW Concerns Eduardo V. Manalo considering the significant presence of the Iglesia Ni Cristo worldwide especially in countries where there are many Filipino migrant workers.

We trust in the judgment of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in choosing Special Envoy Manalo as his emissary. Manalo’s stature as leader of the INC community and his familiarity with the situations of Overseas Filipinos worldwide make him suited for the mission President Duterte has placed in his hands.

Special Envoy Manalo’s entrance into the OFW scene at this time is particularly needed given the urgent and crucial need to advance the human rights and social welfare of OFWs in Kuwait, in Taiwan, and many countries worldwide.

We hope Special Envoy Manalo will be able to convince the Government of Kuwait to quickly iron out the issues on just protection and promotion of the welfare of OFWs in that Middle East country.

We are also hopeful Special Envoy Manalo’s leadership abilities and powers of moral suasion will make many Filipino recruitment agencies commit to and abide by ethical best practices in the manpower placement industry.

Considering that thousands of Filipinos are victims of international human trafficking, we expect Special Envoy Manalo will coordinate well with Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano and Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II in significantly reducing the number of Filipinos who unwillingly and willingly fall prey to human traffickers and smugglers.

We also express the hope that Special Envoy Manalo will encourage OFWs around the world to handle their personal finances better, practice tithing, and make sound choices on how they spend their hard-earned income. (END)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
