Prayers for the Deceased
« on: October 30, 2010, 02:04:35 PM »
Prayer for the Deceased Person

Almighty Father, eternal God, hear our prayers for Your son/daughter (Name) whom You have called from this life to Yourself. Grant him/her light, happiness, and peace. Let him/her pass in safety through the gates of death, and live forever with all Your saints in the light You promised to Abraham and to all his descendants in faith. Guard him/her from all harm and on that great day of resurrection and reward raise him/her up with all Your saints. Pardon his/her sins and give him/her eternal life in Your kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Rosary for the Dead

This rosary consists of 40 beads in memory of the 40 hours
which Our Lord is thought to have spent in Limbo.
There are also the 5 introductory beads as on the Dominican Rosary.
One begins and ends this chaplet with the
De profundis or an Our Father and Hail Mary.
On the large beads is made acts of faith, hope, and charity.
On each small bead is said: "Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation."
Each decade is concluded with: "Eternal rest grant unto them, etc."
The final prayer is as follows:
V. Eternal rest grant unto him/her, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon him/her.
V. May he/she rest in peace.
R. Amen.
V. May his/her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
R. Amen.
a May the love of God and the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ bless us and console us and gently wipe every tear from our eyes:
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
R. Amen.

For Departed Loved Ones

O Almighty God, Who by the love which You have for men, have willed to take our humanity, to live a life of hard work, to suffer a most cruel Passion, and finally to die on the Cross, I beseech You, by the infinite merits purchased for us with Your Precious Blood, look mercifully on the suffering which is endured by the holy souls in Purgatory. Accept, O merciful God, the prayers which I offer for them, and call them to the glory of heaven. I recommend to You the souls of my relatives, friends, and benefactors, and in a special manner of those to whom I may have been an occasion of sin by my bad example.

Most Holy Virgin, Mother of Mercy, Comforter of the Afflicted, intercede for those souls, that, by your powerful intercession, they may be admitted to enjoy that kingdom which is prepared for them. Amen.

ACT OF FAITH

O my God,
I firmly believe that you are one God
in three divine Persons,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I believe that your divine son became man,
died for our sins,
and that he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe these and all the truths
which the holy Catholic Church teaches,
because you who have revealed them,
who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

ACT OF HOPE

O my God,
relying on your almighty power
and infinite mercy and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins,
the help of your grace,
and life everlasting
through the merits of Jesus Christ,
my Lord and Redeemer.

ACT OF CHARITY
O my God
I love Thee,
with my whole heart and soul,
and above all things,
because Thou art infinitely good and perfect,
and most worthy of all my love;
and for Thy sake,
I love my neighbour as myself.
Mercifully grant,
O my God!
that having loved Thee on earth,
I may love and enjoy Thee
for ever in heaven.

Amen.

How to pray the Chaplet for the Dead

The Chaplet for the Dead contains 45 beads. It begins with the Crucifix, 5 introductory beads and 4 sets of 10 beads (40 beads). This Chaplet has no medal. The 40 beads are in memory of the 40 hours which Our Lord is thought to have spent in Limbo.

One begins and ends this devotion with the De Profundis or the Our Father and the Hail Mary.

On the large beads is made acts of Faith Hope and Charity.

On each small bead, you say:

"Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation."

Each set of 10 beads is concluded with:

"Eternal Rest Grant unto (him/her)
and let the perpetual light shine upon (him/her).
May (he/she) rest in peace."

Conclude with:

V. Eternal rest grant unto (him/her), O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon (him/her).

V. May (he/she) rest in peace.
R. Amen.

V. May (his/her) soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

R. Amen. +

May the love of God
and the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ
bless us and console us
and gently wipe every tear from our eyes.
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.

R. Amen.
