ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The city government is establishing a facility to centralize the roasting of pigs by the “lechoneros” in this city.
The term lechoneros locally refers to businessmen engaged in the trade of roasted pigs.
Amelia Amar, Task Force Karne team leader, on Wednesday said the establishment of a centralized roasting facility will ensure the roasted pigs being sold to the public are of good quality and safe.
“Centralizing the roasting of pigs in this city will ensure that the meat is safe since it will pass through sanitary requirements,” Amar said.
Amar said the facility will cost PhP6.5 million and will be placed at the compound of the city government’s abattoir in Barangay San Roque.
Amar said the roasting facility will include enclosed lavatory and others.
She said the facility will also serve as one of the city government’s sources of income through the payment of service charge.
She said there are 20 registered lechoneros in this city. (PNA)
