Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat has expressed elation over the success of the 6th Wow Sardinas, a public eating of different sardine products with matching cracker biscuits ala boodle fight style, on the entire stretch of R.T. Lim Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon.
Lobregat said the
Wow Sardinas is one of the highlights of the
annual Fiesta Hermosa Festival every October to promote Zamboanga City as the
Sardines Capital of the Philippines, considering that 80 percent of the leading canned sardines in the country are produced and manufactured in this city.
As early as 4 p.m. Wednesday, the entire stretch of R.T. Lim Boulevard, from the junction of Alejo Alvarez St. to the junction of Don Navarro, was teaming with people mostly students from the adjacent schools as they waited for their turn to
eat sardines.
The activity showcased the sardine products of the cooperators, namely; Asahi Food Manufacturing, Fortune Group Corp., Gold Star Seafoods Manufacturing Corp., Aquatic Food Manufacturing Corp., Ayala Seafoods Corp., Universal Canning Corp., Seacoast Top Choice Food Corp., Atlantic Foods Corp. and Permex Producer & Export Corp.
The official bottled water Nature's Spring while Rebisco Biscuits was the official partner crackers.
Meanwhile, on Thursday brings to highlight the month-long festival with the staging of the most anticipated event, the street dancing and floral float parade in the afternoon from City Hall to the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex, where a commemorative program and awarding of prizes to winners of
different competitions will follow.
At least 11 schools have registered for the street dance on parade, which will start at 1 p.m. Thursday.
The performances will start from the downtown area onward to San Jose Road then Normal Road (fronting Western Mindanao State University) and to culminate at the sports complex for the final showdown.
Prizes at stake are P150,000 for first place, P100,000 for second place and P50,000 for third place, while non-winning schools will receive a consolation prize of P7,000 each.
