Happy World Reef Day! Our scientists do surveys to deepen our understanding of the reefs at the West Philippine Sea.
TALES FROM THE SAILS: A team of 10 researchers from the UP MSI and DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau conducted a field survey on Pag-asa Island in the Kalayaan Island Group, West Philippine Sea, from April 25 to May 3, 2025. Building on their February 2025 survey, the researchers assessed biodiversity, collected samples, and measured water properties over the reef flat.
This work is part of the Integrated Research for Biodiversity Conservation and Carbon Sequestration in the West Philippine Sea (BioConSeq-WPS) project funded by DENR-BMB, a long-term effort to understand and protect marine ecosystems in this ecologically critical area.
