Eight members of a household in Mandaluyong City were bound and locked up Thursday morning in the bathroom by armed robbers who ran away with almost P500,000 in cash and valuables.
The police said the incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. in the house of businessman Marcelo Ong Jr. and his wife Blanca on Calbayog Street, Barangay Highway Hills.
Investigators said Ronaldo Bañas, the family driver, was steering the Ongs’ Honda CRV out of the driveway when an armed suspect entered.
The suspect ordered the driver to get off the vehicle while his companions entered the compound. At gunpoint, the housemaids, who were washing clothes, were ordered to go inside the house, according to Mandaluyong chief of police Senior Supt. Carlos de Sagun.
The Ong couple, Ong’s mother Catalina, housemaids Ponciana Purgatorio, Majilyn Simon, Librada Velasco and Grace de Guzman, and Bañas were herded into the bathroom on the ground floor and tied up with a white straw cord.
The victims managed to free themselves after the suspects left, and called the police.
The six unidentified suspects fled with P50,000 in cash, a Rolex wristwatch worth P150,000, a Tag Heuer watch worth P60,000, two Calvin Klein watches worth P20,000, assorted pieces of jewelry amounting to P100,000, and four cellular phones worth about P50,000.
