Dante continues to move eastward away from the country, lashing Bicol region with over P100 million worth of infrastructure and crop damages, 25 fatalities, three people missing and several others injured despite the non-prevalence of strong monsoon season.
"Typhoon 'Dante' continues to move away from the country. It was spotted 1,050 kms East of Tuguegarao, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph as of 10:45 a.m," latest weather bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council on Tuesday said that death toll rose to 25 as of Tuesday morning, mostly from landslide in Hubo, Magallanes in Sorsogon. Four retrieved bodies are still unidentified while three are still missing from the landslide.
The NDCC also reported that 236,887 persons have been displaced, with only 174 evacuation centers currently housing 54,308 people.
It noted an increase in people staying in evacuation centers due to inclusion of affected residents, particularly in Camarines Sur. PNA
