To ensure readiness for potential tsunamis resulting from the series of earthquakes offshore of Ilocos Sur, Civil Defense PH Administrator and Executive Director of NDRRMC Usec. Ariel Nepomuceno, emphasized the importance of immediate action.
“Regional Directors 1, 2, and 3, please work closely and urgently with your partner NGAs and LGUs, especially the DILG,” he urged.
The NDRRMC has directed OCD Regional Offices I, II, and III to enhance local tsunami preparedness. Key actions include:
1. Updating regional tsunami contingency plans and drafting new evacuation plans aligned with recent hazard assessments.
2. Mapping accessible evacuation routes with a 15-minute response time, focusing on coastal communities.
3. Identifying and validating evacuation centers for coastal barangays and temporary shelters for displaced residents.
4. Testing and ensuring the functionality of tsunami alert and communication systems with LGUs and communities.
Residents are urged to stay informed and follow safety instructions from local authorities.
