The deposed vice mayor of Tayug who lost in the electoral protest filed against her by the losing candidate holed herself up inside her office to prevent the takeover of her position.
With her bodyguards and supporters surrounding the legislative building, Vice Mayor Janet Zaragoza has not left her office since Friday in order to thwart former Vice Mayor Madelyn Cabotaje-Ramirez from taking over her position.
Ramirez was declared on October 7 winner of the vice mayoralty election in May 2007 by Regional Trial Court Judge Emma Parajas of Branch 52 who found the latter to have won the vice mayoralty election by 82 votes.
The decision of Judge Parajas reversed the proclamation made by the Municipal Board of Canvasser which declared Zaragoza winner of the vice mayoralty race by 47 votes.
Tension is expected as Ramirez is bent on taking over from Zaragoza on Monday with the help of elements of the 107th Police Mobile Group and her own followers.
It was learned that the followers of Zaragoza are massing around the municipal hall to thwart Ramirez from taking over.
In a pamphlet her followers are circulating addressed to the people of Tayug, Zaragoza said she continues to be the vice mayor of Tayug as she and her lawyers filed an appeal before the Court of Appeals and the Commission on Elections. - PNA
