CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao –- Police and military authorities have been hunting down two men on board a luxury vehicle who tried, but failed, to kill off-duty soldiers in an ambush in Maguindanao Wednesday, police said.
Capt. Arvin John Encinas, speaking for the 6th Infantry Division, said Thursday the Army and police personnel have joined forces to look for the suspects and the Toyota Innova they used in trying to execute the two soldiers.
The two, who were not identified by Encinas, were on board a motorbike in civilian clothes from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat to Cotabato City when the suspects on board a grey Toyota Innova opened fire upon reaching Guidulungan, Maguindanao at around 3 p.m.
Although they escaped alive, Encinas said one of the two soldiers sustained minor injury on his left leg.
Encinas said the soldiers who were armed with hand guns traded shots with the suspects. He said the suspects also chased the soldiers until they reach a police outpost.
The gunmen, Encinas said, backed off when they saw police officers from Guindulungan municipality were about to respond.
The Toyota Innova, without license plate, was seen speeding toward Datu Odin Sinsuat, also in Maguindanao.
“We are following up a lead, in due time the long arm of the law will catch up with the suspects,” he said in a radio interview.(PNA)
