TRIATHLETES SURGE INTO DAVAO FOR IRONMAN RACE

Triathletes from all over the country and some from other countries are converging upon Davao City for the Alveo Ironman 70.3.

Some of the athletes, including Rep. Carlos Roman L. Uybarreta of the 1-CARE Party-list of electric cooperatives, checked-in Thursday to, among others, get familiar with the route and its challenges ahead of the race on Sunday, March 25.

Rep. Uybarreta is a veteran triathlete. Among the triathlons he joined were the Camsur Triathlon in 2009, the Ironman in Naga City in Camsur in 2011, and the Century Tuna Animo Sprint Triathlon in 2012.

As to mental preparation, he graduated in 1986 from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, then took up law at San Beda College (now a university) where he graduated in 1992. He has been a practicing attorney adept in litigation of civil, commercial, election, and labor cases.

Saturday afternoon, the organizers conduct race briefings and give race day tips. Mandatory bike and helmet checks also take place that day. At the Azuela Cove in the morning, the Alaska Ironkids take to the swim-bike-run race with all their youthful energy.

On Sunday, the first of a series of gun starts is at 6:10 am. Breakfast will be served very early at 3:00am. Participants must be at the designated transition area by no later than 5:30 am. Athletes get 20 minutes of swim practice from 5:30 am to 5:50 am.

"The race begins with a one-loop swim at the beautiful property development of Azuela Cove where they will go back for their first transition. They will then exit onto the main highway to start the 90km bike course," according to organizers.

They also said the "fast, single loop bike course heads all the way to the turnaround point at Tagum City. Participants will then head back to Azuela Cove for the second transition. They exit out to the flat roads of J.P. Laurel Avenue towards the commercial district of Davao to complete the two-loop 21.1km run."

"Participants will be cheered by a crowd of spectators lining up along the streets until the finish line at the Azuela Soccer Field," they added.  (END)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
