Maltreated OFW in Bahrain can't go home
« on: October 14, 2007, 02:57:54 AM »

An overseas Filipino worker has been staying for at least three months at the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain after escaping from his employer who had allegedly maltreated him.

Robert Garcia of the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain said they are now working on the case of Eduardo Samonte Jr., a kick boxer and martial arts instructor in the said country.

Samonte escaped from his employer last July after being maltreated. He said his employer deprived him of food and constantly hurt him.

"He throws cans of food and pots at us. He doesn't give me food. We cannot do anything since this is their country. The law is different here," complained Samonte.

He was able to get to the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain, but can't fly back home because his employer has refused to surrender his passport.

Garcia said they are now working hard to repatriate Samonte safely back to the Philippines.

He added that there are also other similar cases being worked on by the embassy.

Ang akong pangutana Ginger, ngano man nga  abtan man ug tag tulo, upat, or six months usa nila ma resolve o ang pagkuha sa maong passport.Dili ba diay mahimo ug kuhaan ug lain nga passport aron matatakan ug exit aron makauli dayon. This kind of problem has been around for so many years.

I don't really know what the policies are with regards to middle east working visas.

What a tragedy! An art of slave trade.  The Philippine Embassy must have to do some necessary emergency actions to help our fellowmen. I can't understand how they allowed human trafficking, keeping too long in their custody is unbelievable. I am too sorry to hear report -like this as what Lindy related is more than a crime thrill which only happens in film.
