An overseas Filipino worker has been staying for at least three months at the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain after escaping from his employer who had allegedly maltreated him.
Robert Garcia of the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain said they are now working on the case of Eduardo Samonte Jr., a kick boxer and martial arts instructor in the said country.
Samonte escaped from his employer last July after being maltreated. He said his employer deprived him of food and constantly hurt him.
"He throws cans of food and pots at us. He doesn't give me food. We cannot do anything since this is their country. The law is different here," complained Samonte.
He was able to get to the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain, but can't fly back home because his employer has refused to surrender his passport.
Garcia said they are now working hard to repatriate Samonte safely back to the Philippines.
He added that there are also other similar cases being worked on by the embassy.
