MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – A motorcycle rider was killed on Friday after a 10-wheeler truck lost its brakes and hit several vehicles along C5 road in Taguig.
The victim was identified as James Bond Cuarterno.
Authorities said the truck was traveling north-bound when its brakes malfunctioned, slamming into 5 vehicles and 4 motorcycles.
Authorities said at least 5 motorists were injured in the incident, which caused heavy traffic on both north-bound and south-bound lanes of C5.
The injured persons were brought to Ospital ng Makati.
They were identified as Sheira Joy Madrid, 25; Cenaira Madrid, 5; Nera Nicolas, 33; Zaria Claire Nicolas, 4; and Ambion Bonnie Portacio, 35.
The driver, Normalita Rumbaua, is under the custody of Makati Traffic Division and being investigated, as of posting.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic director Yves Gonzalez, meanwhile, said as of 6:30 p.m., traffic along C5 remained heavy.
He advised motorists to avoid passing C5 road and to take alternate routes.
Gonzalez said traffic build-up was also experienced along EDSA due to motorists who avoided C5.
MMDA announced on its official Twitter account that all of the vehicles involved in the multiple collision were cleared at 8:50 p.m. -
